About Chris Smothers

OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY

Chris Smothers is a country music singer-songwriter and performer from Lago Vista, TX. His passions in life include music, songwriting, recording and motocross. Chris started playing guitar and wrote his first song at the age of 15. He released his latest EP, Slip into The Night, on October 18, 2016. He has been aired on 107.9 KFAN-FM radio, has written over 150 songs in his career, and reached his goal of 200 shows in 2019. Chris started a small, non-profit organization called “Music for Healing Hearts,” where he travels to different local nursing homes and hospitals to bring music to those who need it most and to give back to the community.

“On the path to becoming a professional motocross racer, I ran out of funds to keep racing. I had to put 10 years of passion, emotion, blood, sweat and tears into something else. Songwriting has been an escape for me; I put myself somewhere else in my thoughts and visualize all my surroundings as if I was actually there. The only thing that can compare to my love of riding dirt bikes and hitting jumps is getting up on stage. I get that same rush getting on stage as I did back when I was sitting on the starting gate with 40 guys about to take off into a 25-foot-wide corner. I still feel the same adrenaline rush as if I was pulling into the track, as I do pulling into a venue to play a show, but when the adrenaline rush is over, and I’m about to start playing, I get very calm and relaxed as I allow my vocal chords and guitar to take over.

I pioneered my first band, Project Texas, in 2013. I learned so much from the experience and spent countless hours working with three dedicated guys (Kyle Wotipka, Rich French, & Mark Journigan) who loved playing music. We released our first album, Down by the Lake, on September 30, 2013. I learned the ins and outs of the music business, which included: dedication, bookkeeping, advertisement, management, practicing twice a week and playing 3 hour shows on the weekends. Unfortunately, Project Texas split up right at the end of 2014. On March 13th, 2015 I lost one of my best friends and the lead guitar player of the band, Kyle Wotipka, who sadly took his own life. Since then, I have been dedicating myself to my shows, songwriting, recording and guitar playing in his legacy.”
